Back in August we got hammered by Hurricane Irene. She was a brutal bitch. No power for over a week, massive tree damage, flooding, brutal. After a major storm like that passes there is an erie sense of calm and quite. Like nature is tired, needs a rest, she let’s her guard down. Irene’s post-destruction lull was nothing short of spectacular. No power of any kind and vicious winds. I wandered around and shot some pictures and video of the aftermath. US route 1 is not a place we East Coasters think of as powerless, quite the opposite. It’s Target after strip mall after Home Depot after Walmart after Panera… This is US 1 after Irene, 11pm. The light is from a cop car directing traffic. There’s an apocalyptic feel to this picture, like a city shutdown, forgotten, one infected with a zombie virus. Happy Halloween.
